It has been a dream of mine for years to foster cats. In all honesty, I want to foster dogs and kids as well but figured I'd start with cats. It has been a passion of mine, I deeply love animals and want to care for and love as many as I possibly can. I decided now was the perfect time to give it a try. Why not throw fostering cats into the crazy mix of life that it currently is?
I've grown up with cats, in fact, other than my first three years in University, I've always had cats at home. I love them, I love their little souls and their quirky little ways. I love their unique challenges that make each one special. From Milo who had a list of health problems to my current funky eyed gingy boys Hank and Cooper. There is something so soothing about sitting down and having a cat come curl up in your lap. Listening to the soft puurs and seeing the unconditional love in their eye (pun intended), it just reaches a deep level of my soul. I may not like when they think my head is a cat toy at 2am but all is forgiven the next morning.
I signed up with two rescue organizations in February, one finally came through two weeks ago. I'm fostering through Cat Chance in Sarnia and the adjustment this far has been easy. I had a lot of hesitation when I was contacted about taking in two 6 month old kittens, perhaps first time jitters, but I was worried about how Hank and Copper would react. They are my boys after all and if anything was too stressful for them, I'd stop. But, it's been okay. The first night I left the kittens in their cages for about 15 minutes while they all smelled each other. The kittens then went into their own room. The next day I found all 4 sitting at the both sides of the door trying to get each others paws through the crack at the bottom. I let the kittens out to stretch their little legs (they had been in a small cage for 4 weeks straight, they needed to run around) and to my surprise, there was minimal hissing. Since that day, they've all adjusted quite well. It has been a pleasant surprise but it is hard not to fall in love with them. I know eventually there will be a foster failure but I'd like to make it through a few kittens first.
Here is more info on the kittens incase you have the heart and space to bring them home. They would be best in a home together since they are semi-bonded at 6 1/2 months old.
Frederick aka Freddy or Fredster is a spunky, full of life and energy little guy. He can be found playing with the millions of toys I have for them or cuddled up in some really random places. If he isn't playing with a toy, he's usually playing with Fenny. Freddy always comes running when I get home or anytime after I leave for a few minutes, even if I go outside, he's there as soon as I come back in. He loves feet, he loves sitting on feet, rubbing against your legs and trying to get your attention. He loves love and demands to be petted. Freddy does have a cloudy eye but it doesn't bother him. This was caused from an old injury when he was on the farm.
Fenny aka Ms Sweetheart is a loving, sweet, petite little lady. I'll be honest, I don't typically love female cats but I've fallen hard for Fenny. She is just the sweetest most gentle and well mannered kitten. She loves to be cuddled and will often come sit beside you or behind you or on your keyboard 4674ujgjnfdjgn fgb h fgigf09d while you'r trying to type a blog post. I guess she just wants to add her two cents. She does have bouts of being playful with toys and her brother but this sweet little lady prefers to be close and snuggled up to a human.
We are working on getting them use to being handled and having their nails trimmed. They are both fixed and have their first round of shots. They are good with my handsy 6 year old and other cats as well (we have 5 permanents in our house, yes that means 7 total right now) no exposure to dogs so that is unknown.
