One important step while going through trauma is labeling. I don't mean labeling yourself but more so label the world around you. Label the things you miss, the things you wish for, the things you look forward to, label them as a part of the healing process. Empty what is floating around in your head and get it out on a piece of paper.
There is no shortage of things to label in the current world wide situation. We have all been affected by what is going on so I thought it would be good to write a post for you to try out. Maybe you are incredibly overwhelmed, sad, frustrated, angry, hurt, scared, worried, frantic, panicked, or calm. Each and every emotion you are feeling is a normal and healthy reaction to what is going on. I will say it in each and everyone of my blogs for the foreseeable future because it is important for everyone to know. So let's take some time and write.
Today I have chosen to write about the things I miss. With this world wide traumatic event, there is no doubt a lot of people have a deep feeling of loss (again, totally normal) so I encourage you to write about your loss. The first step in this three part process is labeling things we miss. Things that perhaps we took for granted. Things that were part of our routine so much that we didn't recognize them individually. This that right now we may cry over missing. Things that we crave to do again, to bring back into our life. Take time to honour those feelings of loss, You are feeling the heaviness of loss for a reason. Acknowledge it. Sit with it. Feel it then write them down. There's always power when you take a moment to write things down, it's why I have blogged for so long. When you release what is holding you mental space down, you create the opportunity for it to flow again, to make connections between mind and body. You connect the logical with the felt senses.
Things I miss:
Without those, life seems less. It's almost as if I am living in a dream, some sort of limbo state of disconnection to what the real world is. To exist in a time where what I once was use to is no longer possible. Yes it is temporary and yes we will get back to the things we miss eventually but don't discredit the emotional state you may be in. Your world has been turned upside down, and take it form someone who has been there 4 times, you will come out but for now, just sit with it. Feel what you need to feel cry as much as you need to cry, learn something new or sit on the couch and binge watch TV. Take a moment though to write down what you miss, help validate the moment you are in and the emotions you are feeling. If you care too, leave a comment with some things that you may be missing.
Until next time remember: everything you are feeling is a normal and healthy response to the situation you are in.
