A year unlike any other. A year in which we found ourselves with more time on our hands than we are use to. There were moments, lots of moments, when we drove each other up the wall. We had to find something productive to do together and I needed to continue to teach Bee is a fun way, that's when Unicorn and Cat Co. was born.
Pre-covid, Bee and I attended a crystal bracelet making workshop. We both fell in love, not only with the crystals, but with making something so beautiful. We both found that sitting and creating beauty with our hands helped calm us, it eased our anxiety.

It didn't stop with the workshop. Bee showed such an interest that I purchased some crystals and gems for her and started making her own at home. At first she made them for us and then friends and she loved it so much that she decided to start making them to sell. Bee's intention was to make them and then sell them at local markets throughout the summer, really getting her involved in the business world. However, Covid had other plans. market after market was closed and she felt she wouldn't be able to sell any of her creations.

Having run an online business before, I asked her if she wanted to try that avenue. She was all about it (may have been the aspect of using the computer and taking pictures, both of which she likes but we don't use the computer often). This summer she worked on learning how to take pictures. She watched videos and practiced different set ups. She learned about Etsy and how to run a business online. It took a long time but she pushed through and has her first little online business Unicorn and Cat Co.

She came about the name by combining her favourite animal with my favourite animal. I help her by making sure the bracelets are secure and running the back end of the business but for the most part she does a lot herself. It's nice to see her take pride in something she has worked hard on. She said she is saving so we can adopt a little sister and get a horse. I've encouraged her to save for some little things as well, like Lego.

She also started a Facebook business page and she's learning how to market. I didn't expect this to happen, this year had other plans but it has been nice to learn and teach her something useful that she can dive into. Something that can carry her into the future. Something she can continue to do for herself and find her way. Share her special talents with the world. I have given her those tools and we continue to learn together.
